Your Website Doesn’t Work Well on Phones: How to Fix It
When a site has no mobile setup, phones show a shrunken desktop page that visitors must pinch and zoom to read. Most will not bother — they leave.
The one-line fix that matters most
Every page needs a viewport tag in its head. This single line tells phones to size the page to the screen instead of shrinking a desktop layout:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
If you use a website builder or WordPress
You rarely need to touch code. Switch to a modern, mobile-responsive theme or template — virtually all current ones are. Preview your pages on your own phone before publishing.
If a developer built the site
Send them this check’s result and ask for responsive styles (CSS media queries) so text, images and menus reflow on narrow screens. This is standard work, not an exotic request.
Quick self-test
Open your site on your phone. Can you read every page without zooming? Do buttons fit a thumb? Does the menu open? If any answer is no, that page needs work.
