Tracking Mental Health: Mood, Sleep and Stress
How to keep a gentle mood and stress journal, what to note, and when to reach out for professional support.
Mood is a symptom too
Low mood, anxiety, irritability and poor focus are worth logging just like physical symptoms. Over a few weeks, a journal can show links with sleep, routine or specific situations.
A simple mental health check-in
- Rate your mood and anxiety from 1 to 10
- Note hours slept and how rested you feel
- Write one line about what stood out today
- Record anything that helped — a walk, a call, rest
When to get help
A journal supports care; it doesn't replace it. If low mood lasts more than two weeks, or you have thoughts of harming yourself, contact a doctor or a crisis line right away. In the US you can call or text 988.
